Food review: Swez Brasserie, Eastin Hotel PJ
I'm feeling so stuffed now.... pig and sloth syndromes all arising ---> and any initial plans to finish up at least one of my two essays by tonight are dissolved with the rest of the motivations to do anything else at all, really. =.= Might just retire to bed once I'm done with this entry...
We went for a belated Mother's Day dinner at Eastin Hotel! Have heard so much about the buffet spread here, but have yet to actually try it out until today. Hm, actually uncle was contemplating on either Eastin or KL Hilton - and of cos I was rooting for the latter la, but the rest all said KL's too far away, etc etc, so Eastin will do. Adults, haih..... *shakes head*
Anyway, for most of it, the food lived up to my expectations of a delightful array:
Started off with appetizer - which btw had sooooo much mouth-watering sights that I ended up going for seconds. And you don't normally do seconds for appetizers, do you? Each with the amount of what was shown in the pic? =.=
But anyway, clockwise from top left corner:
Seasoned baby octopus (also known as Chuka Iidako) - a popular Japanese dish, which if you haven't tried it yourself, has a sweet-tangy sauce to the crunchy texture of the octopus. I recalled eating it for the first time many years ago; I was squirming when I had to bite the octopus' head off. -.- But it tasted good, so now I stuff it whole without a blink of the eye.
Salmon sashimi - Fresh, tender slices of salmon - to be dipped into Japanese soya sauce + a dollup of wasabi (horseradish).
Mussels - It was cooked with some chopped onions and tomatoes and other unidentifable vege... but doesn't lose its mussel appeal - tis all good, I had half 5 huge ones altogether. ^^"
Caesar salad - With Italian dressing! It's the only other salad dressing besides vinegarette (sp) which I like - am repelled by Thousand Island, for some reason. ANyway vege were crisp and very fresh, and the bread cubes enhanced the overall taste to it.
Some funky chicken starter dish (which name I didn't get).
:: Here's an upclose pic of it ::
It looked like a cross between ham and cheese, but has the consistency of minced chicken, in a sense that it crumbles when I poke a fork through. It is quite an interesting culinary of taste: the savoury chicken with the slightly sourish strawberry and orange; and lettuce to add to the texture. I was fascinated.
Round 2 of appetizer had a repetition of most of the stuff above, except for 2 additional items:
The fruit rojak (that's our local fruit salad) - everything was good except for the sauce which was a bit too diluted for my liking. As far as I'm concerned, rojak sauce is supposed to be thick and almost sticky-like, with the pungent prawn paste aroma and super spicy to taste. >.< Ahh I miss penang rojak..... but yeah, this one couldn't match up to it at all. Not one bit.
I have no idea what this is, and I couldn't even tell if it was fish or chicken. I could have sworn the label was written as Chicken Souffle [it was either for this or the unknown chicken dish above], but it appeared more tuna-tasting than poultry-tasting to me. =/ ANd that pretty much speaks for itself edi - if you can't tell if it's bird or fish, it can never be a good item. But I like the crumbly pastry though.
By the time I got to main course, everyone was well on their way to desserts already. (- -")
Starting from top left corner:
Ayam goreng berempah (fried, spiced chicken) - Too dry. Not spiced enough. Not crispy. Booo.
Fried rice - Too dry. Not spicy enough.
Fried chilli crab - I decided, after picking one up and placing on my plate, that it would be too much of a hassle to eat a crab with fork and spoon, and since it's not a pleasant sight to be digging my fingers into it under hotel circumstances, so... =.= But couldn't put it back either, cos some man was waiting impatiently behind me, haih. So I ended up not eating it - more so that everyone else at the table complained that it was too salty.
Poached salmon - I can never get enough of salmon!!! But apparently, that only works for sashimi salmons, and not cooked ones. I found myself stuffing it whole into my mouth, cos I didn't wanna waste food, but at the same time I was so jelak already. *sweat*
Mussels cooked in soya paste - Or something like that. It's called 'tau jiau' in hokkien - dunno what's the English translation for it. Nut sauce, ka? Anyway, I took two cos mum was raving about how good it was.... but hm, I prefer the ones I had over appetizers to it. Or maybe I was already on a mussel overdose by then. (- -")
Vege - Vege is vege la. Nothing to comment.
Braised seafood soup - highly disappointing. Needs about half a gallon of salt.
AND THEN IT'S DESSERTS FINALLY! (/^ ^)/
Starting with the dark red item and moving to the right:
Fruit jello - I can't tell which fruit, but jello is slightly sourish - much to my liking - and reminded me of the KFC red jelly which comes served with a scoop of icecream. Yeah, tastes pretty much like that, albeit a more consistent texture, and with longan inside.
Then there's the creme caramelle which gains points for taste and texture.
The one with the strawberry perched on top has a very very rich and creamy texture, and a surprising treat of fresh berries inside.
And finally, the one tainted with a bit of green hue is something called a Semolina Pudding. It is a cross between creme caramelle and sago pudding, hehe. Has some sorta spongey texture to it, and I loved it cos it didn't have the sickly sweet taste which tends to infect most puddings.
Mango mousse - or so I suspect it's mango, my tastebud was overwhelmed with all the puddings and custards previously. -.- But yeah, isn't it just so pretty? :D
Tiramisu - easily the best among all the rest of the dessert items I took. T.T The light spongey cake melts almost instantly when comes in contact with mouth - and it dissolves into a delightful aroma of coffee and chocolate. Topped with the choc-covered coffeebean on top - myaaah, should have went for some more!! *harps in regret*
Pretty strawberry pastry - snapshot from my uncle's gf's plate, so I had no idea how it tasted like. But it seems that the pastry turned a tad soggy already, so...
